Sarah Ikioka and Elizabeth Johnson Fall in NCAA Individual Championships

The NCAA Division III Individual Championships kicked off on Thursday in Claremont with sophomore Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) and junior Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) representing the University of Redlands women's tennis team for the second year in a row.  In a difficult day, the Bulldog tandem fell short in both outings to make an early exit from the tournament.

While taking on three-time national singles champion Eudice Chong of Wesleyan University (CT), Ikioka competed well but suffered a straight-set loss in the opening round, 6-1, 6-3.

After multiple delays and plenty of waiting around, Ikioka and Johnson finally took the court for the first round of doubles at 7:45 p.m.  The match included multiple changes in momentum, as MIT's Elysa Kohrs and Libby Rickeman snagged the opening set, 6-2.

Nonetheless, the Bulldog duo immediately turned the tide and stormed out to a 6-2 win in the second set to extend the match.

However, the deciding set went in favor of the MIT tandem, sending Ikioka and Johnson home with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 defeat to conclude the 2017-18 campaign.

Ikioka completes her second season with a 17-8 singles record.  She and Johnson finished the year at 19-9.
