The No. 34 University of Redlands women's tennis team took to Verdieck Courts on Friday afternoon for a non-conference showdown against the Bantams of Trinity College (CT). The Bulldogs nabbed a 2-1 lead through the doubles and won five of six singles matches to capture a 7-2 victory.
The No. 2 doubles team of junior Madison Ross (San Diego, CA) and sophomore Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) initiated the scoring with an 8-2 triumph. First-year Lexi Lehman (Scottsdale, AZ) and junior Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) kept things rolling with their 8-5 win at No. 3.
Although the Bantams won at the top slot, Redlands held a 2-1 advantage as the match headed into singles.
However, Trinity evened the count with a straight-set win at No. 4 to put the pressure back on the Bulldogs.
Redlands answered the call by winning all of the remaining matches. First-year Karen Kobayashi (Sappora, Japan) began the Maroon and Gray's rally by defeating her No. 5 opponent, 6-2, 6-0. Junior Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) moved the home team within one with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Lehman put this one in the books for the Bulldogs, as she defeated her No. 3 foe, 6-2, 6-3.
Redlands also gained wins from sophomore Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) and Dolan.
The Bulldogs (6-4) faces ninth-ranked Wesleyan University (CT) on Saturday, March 17, at 11:30 a.m.
