No. 33 U of R Women's Tennis Cruises by Occidental in Opening Round of SCIAC Championship Tournament

The No. 33 University of Redlands women's tennis team opened the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament on Friday with a 5-0 win over the Occidental College Tigers on Verdieck Courts.  With the top-four seeds hosting the first round, the Bulldogs started things off with an efficient match at home.

In doubles, senior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) and freshman Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) initiated the Maroon and Gray's scoring with their 8-1 effort at the No. 2 slot.  Sophomore Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) and junior Claire Bohoskey (Yakima, WA) quickly followed suit with their 8-0 victory at No. 3 before freshman Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) and sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) finished out the solid doubles performance with an 8-1 win at the top spot.

Redlands continued to roll in singles, as sophomore Madison Ross (San Diego, CA) blanked her No. 6 foe.  Lacy officially sealed the deal for the Maroon and Gray defeating her No. 4 opponent in another 6-0, 6-0 showing.

The Bulldogs (9-10, 6-2 SCIAC) look forward to hosting all remaining matches of the SCIAC Championship Tournament on Saturday, May 6.  Redlands squares off against fifth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 9 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.  For additional information about the tournament, please visit the event website.
