No. 24 Bulldog Women's Tennis Edges No. 25 Denison University for First Win of Season

The No. 24 University of Redlands women's tennis team took to Verdieck Courts on Wednesday for a non-conference bout against No. 25 Denison University (OH).  After storming out to a 4-1 lead, the Bulldogs saw their lead dwindle into a knotted 4-4 tally, before freshman Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) clinched it at the No. 5 slot for the Maroon and Gray's first win of the 2017 season.

Redlands came out firing in doubles and eagerly recorded the sweep with strong results in all three matches.  Senior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) and Lacy teamed up at the No. 2 slot for an 8-2 victory, while sophomore Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) and junior Claire Bohoskey (Yakima, WA) combined forces for a stellar 8-1 showing at No. 3.  Freshman Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) and sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) completed the sweep with their 8-5 win at the top spot.

However, the Big Red refused to go away and battled back in singles by recording a win at No. 6.  Nonetheless, Johnson cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 to put Redlands up by a 4-1 advantage.

Needing to win just one of the remaining four matches, the home team seemed to be in control.  But the visiting squad kept fighting and ultimately pushed all the way back to even the count.  With the final outcome falling on the No. 5 singles match, Lacy was all business and earned the 6-4, 6-4 decision to clinch Redlands' first win of the season in fine fashion.

The Bulldogs (1-6) immediately return to action on Thursday, March 16, when they host seventh-ranked Amherst College (MA) at 3 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
