The No. 24 University of Redlands women's tennis team took on the 34th-ranked Christopher Newport University (VA) Captains on Friday afternoon in non-conference action on Verdieck Courts.  After going down 1-2 through the doubles, the Bulldogs battled in singles but ultimately came up short in a 3-6 decision.

The Captains jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) and freshman Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) registered an impressive 8-4 win for the Bulldogs at the No. 1 spot.

Trailing by a score of 1-2, the Maroon and Gray took on the singles with hopes of overcoming the deficit.  Unfortunately for the home team, CNU came away victorious in the first three matches off the court to secure the overall win.

Nonetheless, Ikioka rallied back to defeat her No. 1 opponent by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, while sophomore Madison Ross (San Diego, CA) put together a quality showing in her 6-1, 6-7(3), 7-5 victory at the No. 5 position.

Redlands (0-5) takes on the No. 15 University of Mary Washington (VA) on Saturday, March 11, at 10 a.m. on Verdieck Courts.
