Redlands Women Suffer Opening-Round Losses at NCAA Tennis Individual Championships

The Bulldogs' challenging day on the courts continued, as seniors Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) and Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA), who were representing the No. 19 University of Redlands women's tennis team, came up short in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tennis Individual Championships at Kalamazoo College in Michigan.

Following last year's first-round showing, Etchegaray made her second appearance in the singles competition but suffered an early exit with a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Ashnaa Rao, who is the No. 1 player from Johns Hopkins University (MD).

Etchegaray finished out the final campaign of her illustrious career with a 21-6 singles mark, which included a 10-match unbeaten streak to close out the regular season.

She looked to regroup during doubles when she teamed up with Villanueva for an afternoon match at Stowe Stadium. Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for both players, as they fell to Juli Raventos and Linda Shin of Williams College (MA), by scores of 6-3, 6-2.

The talented tandem completed the season with an 18-10 record.
