No. 19 Bulldog Women's Tennis Reigns Supreme over Cal Lutheran Regals in Third-Place Match of SCIAC Championship Tournament

The No. 19 University of Redlands women's tennis team took care of business in Sunday's third-place match of the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament by defeating the Cal Lutheran University Regals, 6-3.  On the heels of a 2-1 doubles lead, the Bulldogs fired off three-consecutive wins in singles to secure the overall victory.

The top doubles tandem of seniors Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) and Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) efficiently cruised to an 8-0 triumph to put Redlands on the board.  Although the Regals answered back at No. 2, the Bulldogs responded at the No. 3 slot, as senior Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and junior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) put together an 8-4 showing.

In singles, junior Stephanie Ramos (Sacramento, CA) blanked her No. 6 opponent, before Murnin cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 slot for the Bulldogs' 4-1 lead.

Redlands looked to Vasquez to provide the deciding point with her comeback performance at No. 5.  After struggling in the opening set, she battled to prevail by scores of 0-6, 6-0, 6-3.

In addition, Etchegaray recorded a 6-7(2), 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 1.

Redlands completes the regular season with 16-8 overall mark and an 8-3 record in conference.  The Bulldogs now await the NCAA's announcement about any possible postseason opportunities, either as a team, which will come out on Monday, or as individuals, which will be released on Wednesday.
