The No. 19 University of Redlands women's tennis team took on the fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday morning in the semifinal of the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Tournament but came up short of the upset in a 1-8 decision.

After getting swept in the doubles, the Bulldogs faced a significant uphill battle in the singles.  However, the momentum stayed with the Athenas, who won the first five matches.

Providing a bright spot for the Bulldogs, senior Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) recorded her second win of the season over the top player from CMS, with today's match coming by scores of 7-6(4), 7-6(6).

In addition, junior Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) stayed on court as long as possible by pushing through a three-setter.  She lost the opener, 5-7, rallied to win the second, 7-5, before falling in a match tiebreak, 4-10.

Redlands moves onto the third-place match on Sunday, May 8, at 11 a.m. at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges' Pauley Tennis Complex.  The Bulldogs face the loser of today's Pomona-Pitzer/Cal Lutheran University semifinal match, which is currently in progress.
