REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands women's soccer team lost at Farquhar Field on a goal from 40 yards out from Occidental College Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs opened with a pair of corner kicks from Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) in the third and sixth minutes. Occidental would have the first shot and first shot on-goal in the 12th minute when Courtney Stewart (San Jose, CA) was forced into a save.

Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) had the first shot of the game for the Bulldogs in the 18th minute, a shot that was blocked by the Tigers' defense.

Stewart was forced into another save in the 29th minute when a Tiger header made its way to her. The Bulldogs and Tigers went into halftime scoreless.

After a slow first 45 minutes for the Bulldogs, they came out firing in the second half with a corner and four shots in the first seven minutes. Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) Celine Akroush (Pasadena, CA), Hannah Rice (Portland, OR), and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) all got shots away, but only Akroush was able to put it on target.

In the 58th and 60th minutes, Baum had a pair of shots saved as she tried to beat the Tiger keeper from deep. In the 68th minute Peyton Fendrich (Clackamas, OR) had a golden opportunity when she received the ball at her feet in the box, but her re-directed shot went high as the game stayed scoreless.

The Tigers scored their game-winning goal in the 72nd minute when a 50/50 ball fell to their player and she took it from well outside the box and was able to get it over the outreached hand of Stewart.

Over the final 11 minutes the Bulldogs had three shots saved as they fell 1-0. Redlands finished with 18 shots, seven more than the Tigers, eight corners, four more than the Tigers, but despite their shot advantage, the Tigers actually had three more shots on-goal.

Baum had a game-high and tied a career-high (vs. La Verne, 9-4-1) with five shots. Salinas had three shots with one on-target. Rice, Fendrich, Akroush, and Kelsey Williams (Murrieta, CA) each had two shots. Stewart made six saves across 90 minutes.

The Bulldogs will have a bye this weekend before their senior night next Wednesday October 26 at 7:00 p.m. against Pomona-Pitzer.
