LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team picked up a point within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings Saturday morning with a 1-1 draw with the University of La Verne.

After falling behind in the first 30:00 minutes the Bulldogs were able to get the equalizer from Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) right before the half and that score would hold the rest of the way as Redlands improves to 6-6-1, 6-2-1 SCIAC.

The Leopards were the ones on the gas pedal early taking a quick shot on frame that forced a save from Courtney Stewart (San Jose, CA) in the fourth minute. Skylar Pogue (Simi Valley, CA) would respond by forcing a save in the seventh minute from ULV. Peyton Fendrich (Clackamas, OR) put the second Bulldog shot on-goal in the 15th, but the Leopard keeper was again up to the task.

Following a dip in the offensive action La Verne opened the scoring with a goal in the 22nd minute coming from Alison Flores.  Over the next fourteen minutes Zielinski would go on to take three shots with two of them getting on target, both of which were stopped.  Then with less than :90 seconds remaining in the opening 45:00 minutes, Zielinski would unleash her fifth shot of the half and fourth that was on-goal, which would find the back of the net leveling the game at one.

Out of the break both teams attacked the goal with a combined five shots, four of which were saved, along with a cornerkick.  Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) had two of those shots, Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) added a header and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) put a ball on target, which was also denied.

The Bulldogs' second half shot advantage reached eight, 9-1, with a string of four unanswered shots from the 57th minute through the 62nd.  Zielinski and Celine Akroush (Pasadena, CA) opened the surge with two looks that were off target, Pogue got a shot off that was saved and Salinas would come inches away from a game-winner as her look would hit the crossbar.

Salinas and Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) each had tries to break the tie in the 66th and 69th minutes, but again the Leopard keeper kept La Verne in the game with a pair of amazing saves.

After a long run-of-play advantage for Redlands, Stewart was forced into three saves over the final 16:00 minutes as the Bulldogs only managed two shots over the final 17:00 minutes and none in the last six.

The Bulldogs dominated every category holding a 22-8 shot advantage, drew six more fouls (10-4), forced nine more saves (14-5), and had one additional corner kick (4-3).

Salinas and Zielinski each finished game-highs of five shots. For Salinas she ties a career-high going back to a five-shot game vs. Caltech Oct. 16, 2021, and for Zielinski, it's a new career-high. Zielinski's goal is her third of the season and sixth of her career. Stewart made five saves on six shots on-goal and played the full 90:00 minutes.

Redlands returns to Farquhar Field on Wednesday, October 19 when they host Occidental College beginning at 7:00pm.
