The University of Redlands women's soccer team headed to Whittier College on Saturday night for its third-straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road game. The Bulldogs and the Poets put up a formidable battle, but both teams came up empty through regulation and both overtimes for a 0-0 tie.

Redlands struggled to find its offensive rhythm in the first half but still managed to outshoot Whittier by a 5-3 margin.

The Maroon and Gray found its stride only 37 seconds into the second period, as senior forward Bryn Anderson (Tahoe City, CA) ripped a shot toward goal but was blocked by a Poet defender.

Junior forward Emily Falla (Woodinville, WA) entered the game in the 54th minute and made an immediate impact. Falla and senior midfielder Mel Johnson (Bremerton, WA) proceeded to fire off five quality shots including a beautiful look from Falla that unfortunately, bounced off the crossbar.

The Bulldogs continued to pepper the Poet goalkeeper with attempts from Anderson and Falla. But through 90 minutes, neither team found the back of the net, sending the game into overtime.

Falla, sophomore midfielder Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) and senior forwards Alexa Groesser (Denver, CO) and Gabby Hart (Burien, WA), combined for Redlands' five shots in both overtime periods. Hart took the Bulldogs' final attempt but a Poet body got in the way, resulting in a 0-0 tie.

Thanks to the efforts of Johnson, Baum, and sophomore defenders Ashley Holbrook (Moraga, CA) and Alanna Farrington (Sammamish, WA) Redlands maintained a clean sheet on defense.

As a team, Redlands outshot Whittier, 20-11, with Falla owning 10 of them.

The Bulldogs (3-2-2, 0-0-2 SCIAC) return home Wednesday, September 25 for a 7 p.m. game against the University of La Verne.
