Redlands Women's Soccer Trio Earns Inaugural First-Team All-SCIAC Honors

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced earlier today that the University of Redlands women's soccer team garnered three First-Team All-Conference members for the 2018 season. Senior midfielder Hayley Romo (Port Orchard, WA), sophomore forward Eva Vlassopoulos (Portland, OR), and sophomore defender Abby Nordquist (Gig harbor, WA) each collected All-Conference awards for the first time in their respective careers.

With three goals and three assists for nine points in SCIAC action, Romo has made a strong impact in her final season with the Maroon and Gray. Her efficiency increased during conference matchups with a .536 shots-on-goal average on 28 shots. Her strongest game of the year came in a huge 3-1 win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, where she scored two goals, including one of her two game-winners this season. She also notched the game-winner in a 2-0 shutout over Chapman University.

Vlassopoulos took a big leap this season as the leader of the Bulldogs' offense. She tallied a team-high six goals and one assists on 13 points in SCIAC play this season. She recorded a .600 shots-on-goal percentage while also notching three game-winners against conference foes. In her strongest stretch of games, she registered two goals in a 2-1 win at Occidental College and then one goal and an assist in a 2-0 shutout at Caltech, including the game-winner in both contests.

With speed and tenacity, Nordquist has been the thorn in the side of opposing teams this season. She has started every game played and has been a part of all but 14 minutes of the team's five shutouts in conference. Nordquist has halted opponents' attacks on several different occasions with a number of defensive blocks to help the team's 0.95 goals-against average in SCIAC competition.
