WHITTIER, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team picked up a huge conference road win at Whittier College 23-15 Wednesday night behind a nine-goal performance from Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA)

Redlands improves to 5-10, 4-7 SCIAC, end their four-game losing skid and complete the season sweep over the Poets.

The Maroon and Grey scored the opening three goals of the game thanks to a quick brace from Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR), which covered five minutes. The U of R extended their lead to four, 5-1, at the 8:42 mark after Alison Waddles (Long Beach, CA) and Joren Fettig (Bend, OR) combined for another two. Then to end the period Flaig and Wiencek would add their second and third goals respectively as the Bulldogs moved the lead to 7-2.

Redlands had complete control of the game three minutes into the second quarter adding three straight after Waddles connected for her second of the game, followed by Flaig who tacked on two more to her total. Over the next three minutes the Bulldogs and Poets traded goals before Whittier would go on a 5-0 run to end the half making it a three-score game.

The Poets kept the run intact to start the 3rd Quarter getting within two for the first time since the 11:42 mark of the opening frame. The Bulldogs though would regroup with five in a row that would end their offensive drought, while re-establishing a seven-goal lead, 16-9, with 6:25 remaining in the quarter. During the run Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) scored twice and assisted on Flaig's goal.  Whittier would get two of those goals back on back-to-back possessions with 4:39 left in the period, but four of the next five goals would go to the Maroon and Grey, two of which came with under a minute to play that opened the game up 20-12.  Wiencek capitalized on a yellow-card and was followed by freshman Erin Steinhour (Poway, CA) who would find the back of the goal for the first time and Flaig who would connect for another two.

The largest lead of the game for Redlands came at the 12:39 mark of the 4th Quarter after Flaig scored her ninth of the game off a Fettig assist. Whittier then made it a little interesting with 6:30 left after a 3-0 run made it a six-goal deficit, but the final two goals of the game came courtesy of Wiencek who got her total up to seven as the Bulldogs would roll to the road win.

Fettig led the Bulldogs with four assists and added a goal and a ground ball. Wiencek and Louie also assisted a pair of goals with Wiencek adding seven goals and two ground balls and Louie scoring twice with one ground ball. Steinhour, Waddles, and Flaig all found their way onto the scoresheet. Flaig led the offense with nine goals and set a career-high with 13 ground balls. Erika Lopez (Los Angeles, CA) also had her first shot and ground ball of the season as she has battled through injuries in her senior season. Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) had her third multi-save game of the season with ten and added four ground balls across 60 minutes.

It was a competitive game across the board with the Bulldogs taking 35 shots, collecting 17 draw controls, 37 groundballs, 17 clears, and going a perfect 4-for-4 on free positions.

Redlands concludes their regular season with a home matchup against California Lutheran University this Saturday, April 30 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Farquhar Field.
