REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team opened their 2022 home schedule with a matchup against Illinois-based, Aurora University on Thursday afternoon at Farquhar Field. Despite a good final three quarters, the Bulldogs fell 17-8 after falling behind 8-1 after the first fifteen minutes.

Redlands still seeks their first win of the season as they drop to 0-3, 0-1 SCIAC.

The Maroon and Grey trailed early 3-0 before Maddie Bush (Ladera Ranch, CA) scored UR's first goal at the 7:36 mark. After conceding another five the Bulldogs got their second tally thanks to Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) right before the quarter ended.

The second quarter was much better defensively for the Bulldogs as they held the Spartans to only three goals and were able to stay attached thanks to a pair of goals from Celine Flaig (Redondo Beach, CA) and another from Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA).

After a great defensive effort in the second quarter, the Bulldogs were able to maintain their defensive intensity in the third, but their offense went cold as they were outscored 3-1 with their lone connection coming with 4:25 remaining from Erin Steinhour (Poway, CA).

The Bulldogs' comeback hopes ended at the 9:39 mark of the fourth when they fell behind by double digits, 16-6, in what was a 4-0 run by the Spartans going back to the third quarter. UR continued to battle though and were able to get the margin back to single-digits at 17-8 after Flaig added another two to her total, with the last one coming with :22 seconds left in the game.

Flaig led the Bulldogs with four goals on seven shot attempts, four of which were on goal. Louie had an assist and two ground balls and Steinhour (one goal and one assist) and Bush (one goal and one assist) both contributed in the offense. In net Charlie Baum (Hesperia, CA) made seven saves on 24 shot attempts. She also led all Bulldogs with four groundballs.

Redlands returns to conference play this Saturday, March 5 when they travel to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beginning at 1:00pm.
