The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team shouldered a 5-16 loss at home to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foe, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on a frigid Saturday night.

The Athenas started the game out strong with four goals, but their run was stopped by a free-position goal from sophomore midfielder Erika Lopez (Los Angeles, CA) to make it 1-4 with 17:11 left in the first half. Despite CMS scoring another two goals, the Bulldogs continued to push with a tally from sophomore midfielder Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) to cut their deficit to 2-6 with 4:28 to go. However, the Athenas added one more goal with seven seconds left in the half to head into the break with a 7-2 advantage.

In the second half, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps came out of the gates strong and scored the first four goals. Just past the midway point of the half, sophomore attacker Maddie Bush (Ladera Ranch, CA) lobbed the ball in the middle of the CMS interior to junior attacker Bre Gunderson (San Diego, CA), who slammed it home for the score to make it 3-11.

The Maroon and Gray remained aggressive late with a pair of back-to-back goals from Louie. The first was a successful free-position attempt, while she slashed down the middle and beat the CMS goalkeeper for the second to cut it down to 5-12 with just under five minutes left to play.

Nonetheless, the Athenas kept up their pressure to take the win, 16-5.

For the game, Louie led the Bulldogs with three goals and five draw controls. Sophomore midfielder Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) was active with four draw controls, while sophomore midfielder Joren Fettig (Bend, OR) totaled two ground balls and a draw control.

Redlands (2-4, 2-4 SCIAC) takes a break from SCIAC action with five non-conference games, beginning with Meredith College (NC) on Thursday, March 12, at 7 p.m.
