The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team shouldered a 6-21 loss to Occidental College at home in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Wednesday night.

The Tigers got off to a 6-0 run before sophomore midfielder Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) found the back of the net with a free-position goal to make it 1-6 with 18:51 left in the first half. Less than a minute later, sophomore midfielder Erika Lopez (Los Angeles, CA) took advantage of another free-position attempt to cut the Bulldogs deficit to 2-6.

Nonetheless, Occidental closed the half strong with eight consecutive goals to take a 14-2 lead into halftime.

The Tigers began the second half strong with three goals to extend their lead to 17-2 with 22:57 to go. To stop the run, sophomore forward Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) connected on her free-position shot to make it 17-3 a couple of minutes later.

After the Tigers put up another two goals, the Maroon and Gray bounced back with a pair of their own, starting with sophomore attacker Maddie Bush's (Ladera Ranch, CA) free-position goal. A few minutes later, sophomore midfielder Joren Fettig (Bend, OR) capitalized on an Occidental turnover by sliding her way through the interior of the defense to beat the Tigers' goalkeeper and make it 19-5 with 9:41 on the clock.

With just over three minutes to go, Louie scored her second goal of the game, but the Tigers earned the 21-6 win.

In addition to Louie's two goals, she also stepped her game up on defense with a pair of caused turnovers and two ground balls. Junior attacker Bre Gunderson (San Diego, CA) performed well with three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
