It was a tale of two halves in the University of Redlands women's lacrosse team's 17-22 loss at Chapman University in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match in Orange.

The Bulldogs answered the Panthers' opening goal with two of their own within 41 seconds of each other to make it 2-1 with 25:15 still remaining in the first half. The teams then traded two-goal runs over the next 14 minutes, but the Maroon and Gray caught fire with a 7-0 charge to close the half with an 11-5 lead. During this stretch, first-year Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) provided the game-tying tally to make it 5-5 at the 9:19-mark. Beginning about 20 seconds later, senior midfielder Hanna Morford (West Linn, OR) took over offensively, as she netted four of the Bulldogs' next six goals to aid Redlands' solid halftime lead.

The Maroon and Gray carried that momentum into the second stanza with the opening two goals to extend the lead to 13-5. First, first-year midfielder Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) fired one into the back of the net less than two minutes into the frame before Louie completed her hat trick by the 26:55-mark.

However, the tide began to turn with Chapman's five unanswered goals that closed the gap to 11-14 with 17:09 to go.

Moments later, the Panthers pieced together another surge that put them up, 20-15, with 6:50 remaining.

Redlands worked to cut the deficit with two late scores but it was not enough to make up the difference.

Morford's six goals made her the leading scorer in the conference with 34 on the season thus far. She also registered her third consecutive game with double-digit draw controls with 10 against the Panthers. Senior Alexis Pound (Washington, D.C.) and first-year midfielder Ashley Rende (Mission Viejo, CA) anchored a team effort on the defensive end with three caused turnovers apiece.

Redlands (4-4, 0-4 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting a pair of non-conference opponents next week, beginning with Whitworth University (WA) on Monday, March 25, at 7 p.m.
