The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team sustained a fast start en route to a 13-9 victory over Sewanee to complete its two-game trip to Tennessee over Spring Break. Two Bulldog players finished with hat tricks in the non-conference win.

The Bulldogs jumped on the Tigers early with three goals from three different players to build a quick 3-0 lead with 20:32 still to go in the first half. Although Sewanee scored shortly after, first-year midfielder Maeve Wiencek (Sherwood, OR) found the back of the net on the ensuing possession to put the Bulldogs back ahead by three goals with 18:52 on the clock.

Outside of Sewanee's goal at the 16:36-mark, the Maroon and Gray locked down on defense to not allow another goal for the remainder of the half. The offense also continued to click, as junior midfielder Sadie Pickering (Tacoma, WA) caught fire with three consecutive goals to push Redlands' lead to 7-2 with 5:22 left in the stanza. First-year midfielder Erika Lopez (Los Angeles, CA) tacked on one more goal off of a Tiger turnover with 40 seconds remaining for the Bulldogs' 8-2 advantage at the intermission.

The Maroon and Gray's defense continued to shine early in the second frame, as first-year goalkeeper Annie Van Norstrand (Littleton, CO) recorded three saves in the opening seven minutes. Redlands capitalized with a goal from first-year midfielder Sydney Louie (Lafayette, CA) on a free-position attempt to extend its lead to 9-2.

Although the Tigers cut the deficit to 4-9 by the 15:51-mark with back-to-back goals, the Bulldogs halted their momentum by netting three of their own. First-year attacker Joren Fettig (Bend, OR) and senior midfielder Hanna Morford (West Linn, OR) scored within 12 seconds of each other before Louie took advantage of Sewanee's minor penalty to make it 12-4 for the visitors with 13:01 to play.

However, over the next six minutes, Sewanee made its final push by stringing together three goals to make it 7-12.

But less than 60 seconds later, Fettig completed a hat trick on the third goal of her young career to cushion the Maroon and Gray's lead to 13-7. The Tigers notched two more goals, but Redlands stayed in front for the 13-9 victory.

In addition to her hat trick, Fettig impacted the game with four ground balls, nine draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Pickering paced all players with four goals, while sophomore midfielder Jessica Aguigui (Las Vegas, NV) notched three caused turnovers.

In net, Norstrand tallied nine saves and added eight ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Redlands (2-3, 0-3 SCIAC) returns home for a non-conference tilt against Roger Williams University (RI) on Tuesday, March 12, at 7 p.m.
