The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team faced off against the Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Sagehens in the final Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match of the double round-robin on Monday night in Claremont.  During a strange tale of two halves, the Bulldogs battled to take a late lead in the first half but then suffered through a significant scoring drought in the second period, which resulted in the 9-14 loss.

With the defeat, Redlands slips into a tie for third place in the standings with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Chapman University.  However, the tiebreaker determines that the Bulldogs are the No. 4 seed for the upcoming SCIAC Tournament.

During tonight's game, junior midfielder Stephanie Garrett (San Diego, CA) provided a phenomenal offensive effort, scoring six times on eight shots while providing one assist.  She initiated the Bulldogs' scoring with the opening goal at the 27:59-mark.

The teams traded scores throughout the first half, with sophomore attacker Dulce Moll (Mercer Island, WA) and junior midfielder Sam Keary (Mission Viejo, CA) finding the back of the net to tie it up at three apiece with 12:38 remaining in the frame.

Just about three minutes later, Garrett's second score of the game knotted the count at four all, but the Sagehens found their offensive rhythm just in time to fire off three-straight goals for a 7-4 advantage.

Nonetheless, Redlands answered by nabbing the next four draw controls, which allowed Garrett to uncork four netters over the next five minutes for the Bulldogs' 8-7 lead at the intermission.

Unfortunately for the Maroon and Gray, the second half saw a very different outcome that included just one goal and six total shots.  With 26:20 left on the clock, freshman attacker McKenna Tychsen (Park City, UT) found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Garrett for the assist.

Overall, freshman midfielder Lacey Bjorndal (Sherwood, OR) and Garrett each pulled in five draw controls, as the Bulldogs prevailed in this category with a 15-10 advantage.

Redlands (9-7, 5-5 SCIAC) strives to rebound on Wednesday, April 22, when it hosts the fifth-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas at 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field.
