In a weather-challenged match between familiar Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) foes, the No. 11 University of Redlands women's golf team suffered a 15-stroke defeat to No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at Los Serranos Golf Course over the weekend. After 18 holes, the Bulldogs owned a slight two-shot lead but struggled on day two.  Despite the rainy conditions, the Athenas finished the tournament with a team score of 625 (315-310), while Redlands tallied a 640 (313-327). 

Sophomore Annie Hay (University Place, WA) put together 36 solid holes to finish one stroke behind the tournament leader. She notched a tournament-best score of 74 during Saturday's opening round and then battled through a tough Sunday to sign her scorecard with an 81 for a total of 155.

First-year Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) also tallied a 155 to join Hay in a tie for second place. Her best round came on day one with a 75.

In ninth place, senior Keilee Bessho (La Canada, CA) scored a 162 for the Bulldogs with rounds of 79 and 83. Sophomores Mariah Moon (La Quinta, CA) and Makayla Sugidono (Scottsdale, AZ) finished 11th and 12th with respective tallies of 169 (86-83) and 172 (85-87). Sophomore Emily Duncan (Winchester, CA) notched a total of 195 (96-99) in 19th place.

Next up, Redlands tees off in the first of two SCIAC tournaments of the season, beginning on Saturday, February 16, and Sunday, February 17 at Los Serranos Golf Course.
