The No. 6 University of Redlands women's golf team hosted the first-ever Ogio Bulldog Classic on Monday and Tuesday at the Indian Springs Golf Club in Indio under blustery but sunny conditions. While leading wire-to-wire, the top-ranked George Fox University (OR) Bruins captured the team title with a two-day total of 611 (307-304).
Individually, GFU's Sydney Maluenda took home the medalist honor with a stunning score of 145 that included Tuesday's round of 70. She tallied seven birdies and 22 pars over the 36 holes.
With junior Caroline Ordian (Palm Desert, CA) leading the charge, Redlands posted a third-place team finish with a two-round score of 638 (318-320). With seven birdies and 19 pars, Ordian signed her scorecard with a 151 (78-73) to finish fourth in the individual standings. She also ranked second among the field in par-four scoring with a 4.10 average, or plus two, and tied-for-second in par fives at 4.88, or minus one.
Senior Jenna Durette (Oceanside, CA) put together an impressive tournament with her tied-for-13th finish off of a score of 158 (78-80) that included four birdies and 19 pars.
After posting a team-best 76 to open the tournament, senior Raquel Gordon (Culver City, CA) battled through a difficult second day en route to a final tally of 163 to finish tied-for-21st in the individual standings. She knocked in three birdies and 17 pars over the two days.
Freshman Jasmine Hsu (Fremont, CA) improved by five strokes on day two to record a 167 (86-81), while senior Kari Gordon (Culver City, CA) completed the Bulldogs' scoring five with her 173 (87-86).
Redlands returns to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Saturday, April 8, and Sunday, April 9, by facing all member teams at the Jurupa Hills Country Club in Riverside. Currently, the Bulldogs sit second in the conference standings, 21 strokes behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in the aggregate scoring after the first SCIAC tournament.
