The University of Redlands women's golf team kicked off the February portion of its schedule by competing in the two-round PLNU Super San Diego Championships on Monday and Tuesday at the Riverwalk Golf Course. While challenging numerous NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA competitors, Redlands placed fifth with a total score of 633 (317-316), which was just one stroke off of a third-place tie. In addition, the Bulldogs finished well ahead of fellow Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competitors, Whittier College (676-11th place) and Cal Lutheran University (693-13th place).
Freshman Caroline Ordian (Palm Desert, CA) highlighted the Maroon and Gray's strong outing by earning the silver medal with a total of 148 (75-73). With this tally, she also reset the school record for a two-round score, bettering Hannah Durrette's previous standard of 149 (72-77) by one stroke. She notched six birdies and 20 pars during the event.
Junior Amberlynn Dorsey (Highland, CA) finished 23rd on the day after swinging her way to a total score of 160 (76-84), which included three birdies.
After trimming down her day-one score by eight strokes, junior McKenna Pautsch (San Clemente, CA) completed the tournament with a 164 (86-78) to tie for 33rd. Senior Dalton Meade (Sandy, OR) and sophomore Raquel Gordon (Culver City, CA) finished closely behind with respective scores of 167 (80-87) and 168 (87-81).
The Bulldogs continue their 2014-15 campaign on Saturday, February 21, when they travel to Robinson Ranch Golf Course in Valencia for the SCIAC Tournament No. 1.
