It was announced earlier today that the University of Redlands women's basketball team landed two individuals among the 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Teams. Junior guard Cassandra Lacey (Victorville, CA) earned First-Team honors, while first-year guard/forward Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA) represented the Bulldogs on the Second Team.
This dynamic duo has accounted for 807 of the team's 1,514 points as the top-two scorers for the Bulldogs this season.
Individually, Lacey owns an overall scoring average of 18.1 to lead all conference players. She also paces them with 17.8 points per SCIAC game. During 16 conference contests played, she owns a shooting percentage of 40.0% with 100 made baskets. Her stellar free-throw mark of 79.2% ranks third in the conference but includes the most attempts at 101.
Lacey recently posted a career-high 34 points in the Bulldogs' win over Cal Lutheran University before hitting the game-winning jumper in the final seconds in a win over Caltech that secured the team's tournament berth.
Lacey owns three double-doubles against conference foes in 2018-19 but has registered 10 or more points in 14 of the conference meetings. She has recorded 95 rebounds, 40 assists, and 17 steals during SCIAC competition.
Downs has impressed in her rookie campaign with a scoring average of 15.6 overall and 14.9 in conference competition. While knocking down 41.1% of her shots, she has converted 40.3% of her buckets from beyond the arc. Forty-eight of her school-record 78 threes have come in her 16 conference games played. At the charity stripe, Downs has gone 35-for-45 for 77.8%.
In addition, she has 61 rebounds, 23 assists, and five steals in SCIAC action.
This marks the inaugural All-SCIAC awards for either student-athlete.

As the No. 4 seed, Redlands (11-14, 8-8 SCIAC) takes on top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Thursday, February 21, in the semifinal of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Claremont.
