U of R Women's Basketball Takes on CMS Athenas in SCIAC Postseason Tournament Semifinal

As the No. 4 seed, the University of Redlands women's basketball team looks forward to competing in its 10th-straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament when it heads to top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday, February 23.  Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Roberts Pavilion.

The familiar foes enter the tournament after splitting results during the regular season.  The Athenas emerged victorious in the teams' first meeting back on January 4 in Currier Gym. Although the Bulldogs fell in a 43-59 decision, junior forward Allison Siksnus (Placentia, CA) had one of her best games of the season by knocking down 15 points, hauling in three rebounds, and blocking one opponent shot.

A month later, the Bulldogs avenged that loss with a thrilling 64-63 victory on the road. Freshman guard Mariana Ecija (San Diego, CA) went off for a career-high 22 points, including a 6-for-7 showing from beyond the arc, while also swiping two steals. Senior guard Jade Cheldelin (Portland, OR) backed her with 18 points and three assists.

Overall, Cheldelin leads the team and ranks second in the SCIAC in scoring with 14.6 points per game. Junior forward Reyna Ta'amu follows close behind with 13.1 points per game. Ta'amu also owns the team-leading average of 7.7 rebounds per game, which ranks third among the conference.

In the second semifinal, the No. 2 Chapman University Panthers play host to No. 3 Cal Lutheran University on Thursday, February 23. Earlier this season, Chapman emerged victorious in both contests against the Regals by scores of 70-68 and 70-58.

The winner of Redlands-CMS will take on the winner of Chapman-Cal Lutheran in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament final on Saturday, February 25.

Live stats will be available for all games at the SCIAC website.
