Redlands Track & Field collects eleven Academic Awards from the USTFCCCA

USTFCCCA All-Academic Recipients 

REDLANDS, Calif. - It was announced on Thursday that the University of Redlands Men's and Women's Track & Field teams hauled in eleven awards from the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic and athletic success.

Each of the Bulldog squads garnered All-Academic Team status for surpassing the minimum combined cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.1.  Redlands' 37-member men's team earned a mark of 3.33, while the Maroon & Gray's 27 women impressed with an average GPA of 3.54.  More than 150 men's and women's teams earned this distinction in NCAA Division III.

The U of R teams also gained nine All-Academic selections for those student-athletes who exceeded the minimum GPA of 3.3 while finishing among the top 50 for individual events and top 35 for relays, as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS.

Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) represented the men being named USTFCCCA All-Academic for the third time in his career as a mid-distance runner who is earning a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership.  This year in outdoor track, he was a 1st Team All-SCIAC performer in the 1500m, received the SCIAC Dixon Farmer Character Award, became an NCAA Division III All-American in the 800m, was a four-time All-West Region selection in the 800m, ranked No. 1 in SCIAC and the West Region in the 800m with a time of 1:48.89, and ranked No. 3 in the West Region for the 1500m with a time of 3:46.36.  Earlier in the year within the indoor season he became an All-American in the Mile, was named the USTFCCCA Division III West region Athlete of the Year and was again a four-time All-West Region selection in the indoor 800m and Mile, while receiving his first nod in the 1500m.

On the women's side junior Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA), senior Courtney O'Neal (Las Vegas, NV), and graduate student Andrea Lyon (Danville, CA) received the All-Academic award for the 46.12 they ran in the 4x100 Relay, which led SCIAC and ranked them No. 2 in Division III, earning them All-American honors.  Ackerman and O'Neal are both three-time All-Academic honorees, majoring in Psychology and Environmental Studies, respectively. 

O'Neal has now become a three-time All-West Region performer in the 4x100 Relay and has also qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the same event three times.  Ackerman also competed in the 100m at the NCAA Division III National Championships, earned her second All-Region selection in the 4x100 Relay and her third in the 100m, where she led SCIAC and ranked No. 2 in the West-Region with an 11.91.  Earlier in the year she was also an indoor track All-West Region performer coming in the 60m.

Lyon lands on the All-Academic team for the first time in her career as she earns a graduate degree in Organizational Leadership after majoring in Environmental Studies.  Along with being a member of the 4x100 Relay team she also competed in the 200m and 400m.  She qualified for all three events at the NCAA Division III National Championships becoming an All-American also in the 400m.  She led SCIAC in both events with times of 24.19 and 55.52, respectively.  She also ranked No. 2 in the West Region in the 200m and No. 1 in the 400m.  On the year she was named All-West Region four-times coming in the 4x100 Relay, 200m, and 400m (Outdoor/Indoor).  She was also selected the SCIAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year and the USTFCCCA Indoor Division III West Region Athlete of the Year.

Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR) finds herself on the All-Academic team for the fifth time in her career after she earned a degree in Biology.  She is currently working towards her graduate degree in Organizational Leadership.  This year she brought her career All-Region outdoor total to seven after she compiled 4,263 points during the Heptathlon to lead SCIAC, while finishing No. 2 in the West Region.  During the Redlands Invitational, she took first in four out of the seven events and added second place finishes in the other three.

Junior Ciara Aw (Seattle, WA) lands on the All-Academic team for the first time in her career, but is undeclared on a major.  She was an indoor All-West Region selection this season coming in the Long Jump and posted a mark of 5.58m in the Long Jump during Outdoors, coming at the Redlands Invitational placing her No. 5 in the West Region securing her second All-Region nod. 

Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA) also lands on the All-Academic team for the first time in her career as she works towards a degree in Media and Visual Culture Studies. She gained her second All-Region accolade of her career this year, but her first coming in the 100m Hurdles where she ranked No. 2 in SCIAC and No. 3 in the West Region posting a time of 14.65. 

Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA) becomes a two-time All-Academic honoree as a Chemistry major.  This year she led SCIAC in the Discus with a throw of 42.65m, while ranking No. 2 in the West Region.  She has now earned All-Region honors in back-to-back years.

Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) is the last Bulldog to earn All-Academic recognition, landing on the team for the second time in her career after earning a degree in Health, Medicine, and Society.  This year competed in the 3000m, 5000m, and the 3000m Steeplechase and found herself being named All-West Region once again selection in the 3000m Steeplechase where she posted a time of 10:51.12 coming at the Oxy Invitational.  She led SCIAC in the event for the second straight year and finished No. 2 in the West Region.  She was also an NCAA Division III National Championship Qualifier in the event.
