NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Qualifiers

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced Friday the participants in the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The University of Redlands had ten student-athletes earn qualifications in six different events.  For each men's individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.

Andrea Lyon (Danville, CA), who holds the University of Redlands School Record in the 200m and sits No. 2 in the record books in the 400m will be competing in three events for the Bulldogs as she earns a spot in the NCAA Division III National Championships for the second time in her career.  She comes into the championships seeded No. 7 in the 200m (24.19) and No. 6 in the 400m (55.52).  She will also run the anchor leg for the school record holding 4x100 Relay Team, which consists of Courtney O'Neal (Las Vegas, NV), Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA), and Sydney Harness (Henderson, NV).  This group comes together for the second time in their careers at the National Championships, with O'Neal appearing for the third time in her career.  The quartet comes in with the second-fastest time in the Division III Rankings (46.12), which they earned during the Redlands Final Qualifier.  This time is also the 9th fastest in NCAA Division III history and breaks the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) record.

Ackerman will also be competing in the 100m after she posted an 11.91 at the Redlands Final Qualifier, which broke the school record and puts her as the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Division III rankings.  Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) qualified for the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:51.12, which puts her as the No. 9 seed.  She earned this mark last weekend during the Occidental Invitational.

On the men's side five Bulldogs will be competing at the championships led by Markelle Raymond-Hill (Fresno, CA) who will be competing in two events.  He saved his best performances for the Redlands Final Qualifier where he went 10.46 in the 100m, moving him to No. 2 in the school record books, No. 3 in SCIAC history and No. 14 in the Division III national rankings.  He will also run the anchor leg on the 4x100 Relay Team, consisting of Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA), Cristian Megas (Palmdale, CA), and Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA) who posted a 40.92 at the Final Qualifier, moving them to No. 8 in SCIAC history and No. 12 in the NCAA Division III National Rankings.  Malerstein is the only Bulldog from this group who has competed at the National Championships (2019).

The last Bulldog competing as an individual is Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) in the 800m who returns to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the third time in his career, all within the same event.  He comes into the championships as the No. 2 seed holding a time of 1:48.89, which he set back on April 9 at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite.  With this time he ranks No. 1 in the school record books, No. 2 in SCIAC history, and No. 12 in Division III history.

The NCAA Championships will take place next week, May 26-28 (Thursday-Saturday) at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
