U of R Track and Field Registers 19 Top-10 finishes at Occidental Invitational

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Redlands Track and Field teams competed at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday in their first competition since the SCIAC Championships. The men came away with five Top-3 finishers and eight within the Top-10. On the women's side they recorded 11 Top-10 finishes, which included winning the 4x100 relay.

Men

Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA) earned a Top-10 finish in the 100M with a time of 11.13, 0.04 seconds off his time at the championships last week. Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) continued his strong 2022 with a second-place finish in the 800M with a 1:49.40 mark. His time is 0.51 seconds off his collegiate best of 1:48.89, which he set at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite back on April 9. 

In the high jump, Jacob Huset (Tacoma, WA) came in fifth with a mark of 1.93m (6' 4") mark. His 1.93 is the second-best mark for him as he is coming off a collegiate best of 2.02m (6' 6.74") from the SCIAC Championships. In the pole vault Jack Gordon (Las Vegas, NV) vaulted to a mark of 4.27m (14' 0"), which put him fifth overall. 

Markelle Raymond-Hill (Fresno, CA) set his collegiate best in the long jump with a mark of 6.78m (22' 3") as he took fourth. Raymond-Hill also ran his collegiate best time in the 200M coming in at a 21.88. Owen Schmitz (Fremont, CA) took seventh in the triple jump with a jump of 13.47m (44' 2.5").  Allyn Asberry-Blanco (Orange County, N.Y.) also competed in the triple jump and took ninth with a 12.66m (41' 6.5").  Then rounding out the top finishers was Tyler Davies (Lake Forest, CA) who came in runner-up in the shot put with a throw of 12.60m (41' 4.25"). 

Women

Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA) had a big day for the Maroon and Grey competing as one of the four members of the winning 4x100 relay team, which posted a time of 46.84.  She also took ninth in the 100M (12.11), and eighth with a new college best time of 24.92 in the 200M. Andrea Lyon (Danville, CA) had an impressive day as well joining the 4x100 Relay team in the victory and then returning seven minutes later to compete in the 400m, where she took fourth with a time of 56.66.

Sydney Harness (Henderson, NV) was the third member of the relay team with the fourth being Courtney O'Neal (Las Vegas, NV).  O'Neal added to her day with a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.28m (17' 4") an improvement from the SCIAC Championships. 

Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA) followed her fourth place SCIAC finish with a sixth-place finish in the 100M hurdles with a time of 15.45. Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) set a collegiate best mark with a 10:51.12 in the 3000M Steeplechase, which placed her third overall, while moving her to No. 7 All-Time in SCIAC History and No. 2 in the University of Redlands record books. Ciara Aw (Seattle, WA) jumped to a 5.44m mark (17' 10.25") in the long jump as she took sixth.

In the triple jump Maigan Adams (Los Angeles, CA) took fourth with a mark of 11.01m (36' 1.5") and Christen Wiley (South San Francisco, CA) came in right behind her in fifth with a 10.87m (35' 8") mark. Closing out the top performances for the Bulldogs was Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA) who came in second in the discus with a new collegiate best of 41.70m (136' 10").

Redlands will get one more opportunity to qualify and sharpen up for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be taking place in Geneva, Ohio (May 26-28).  Before that the Bulldogs will host the annual Redlands Final Qualifier (May 18-19) at Ted Runner Stadium.
