U of R Track & Field Sweeps Occidental and Caltech at SCIAC Dual No. 2

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Redlands Track & Field teams competed in the second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Dual Meet Saturday sweeping Occidental College and Caltech.

The women beat Caltech 115-25 and Occidental College 114.50-36.50 to remain perfect in conference dual meets at 5-0, which includes wins over Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and the University of La Verne.

On the men's side they beat Caltech 128-22 and Occidental College 109-49, while improving their conference dual meet record to 4-1 with wins coming against the University of La Verne and Whittier College.  The one loss they suffered came against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. 

Women

It was a solid day for the Maroon and Grey totaling eleven victories led by senior Andrea Lyon (Danville, CA) who broke a pair of University of Redlands school records.  She started her record-breaking day with a win in the 100-Meter posting a time of 12.05, which beat out Jasmyn Crawford (Whittier College), who came in with one of the top times in Division III.  Lyon now passes Margo Edwards for the top spot in the record books who posted a 12.10 back in 1984 during the SCIAC Prelims.  Lyon now sits No. 7 in the Division III National Rankings.

But Lyon wasn't done returning in the 200-Meter to take home another individual title, again beating out Jasmyn Crawford (Whittier College), this time with a 24.33, which now puts her No. 2 in the Division III National Rankings.  She also moved ahead of Margo Edwards for a second time who had the original record of a 24.84 set back in 1982 during the Point Loma/UCSD Invitational. 

Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA) joined Lyon in both events taking third.  She went 12.34 in the 100-Meter and 25.47 in the 200-Meter.  She now ranks No. 19 in the 100-Meter Division III National Rankings and No. 27 in the 200-Meter Division III National Rankings.  First year Sydney Harness (Henderson, NV) put together a nice finish as well in the 200-Meter going fourth with a 25.76, which moves her into the Top 50 Nationally within Division III coming in at No. 37.

Chloe Bullock (Hood River, OR) continues to impress in the 800-Meter winning the event with a 2:24.16, beating the field by over three seconds.  Cece Matteson (Seattle, WA) was right behind in third posting a 2:27.86.  Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) took second in the 1500-Meter with a time of 4:41.52, which places her No. 15 in the Division III National Rankings.  Continuing in the distance Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, CA) competed in the 5000-Meter placing third with an 18:42.79.  Then in the Hurdles it was all Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA) who took home wins in both events posting a 15.44 in the 100m Hurdles and a 1:06.45 in the 400m Hurdles.  She currently sits No. 39 in the 100m Hurdles Nationally and has dropped her time in the 400m Hurdles moving her to No. 37 in the rankings. 

Destiny Jacobo (Running Springs, CA) was the only participant in the 3000-Meter Steeplechase taking home the win with a 13:10.33.  The last two racing events were the relays.  The 4x100 Relay team of Bachmeier, Ackerman, Harness, and Lyon took home the top time with a 47.55 and the 4x400 Relay team of Bullock, Bachmeier, Lyon, and Matteson beat out Occidental with a time of 4:07.14.

For the field events, Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR) won the High Jump with a mark of 1.45m.  Courtney O'Neal (Las Vegas, NV) (5.38m) and Ciara Aw (Seattle, WA) (5.27m) went 2-3 in the Long Jump.  Aw remains at No. 8 in the Division III National Rankings, but O'Neal has now moved into the Top 50 Nationally, jumping up to No. 27 with this mark.  Maigan Adams (Los Angeles, CA) took home the win in the Triple Jump posting a mark of 11.08m, which now places her No. 27 in the Division III National Rankings.  She also placed fifth in the Long Jump (4.94m). 

Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA) led the throws winning the Discus with a throw of 36.31m and now moves to No. 20 in the Division III National Rankings.  She also took fourth in the Shot Put (10.44m) trailing Timony Sherry (Shoreline, WA) who finished second with a mark of 10.96m.  Sherry also competed in the Javelin and finished third with a throw of 27.19m.  Leslie Sernaque Falcon (Concord, CA) and Grace Beaty (Upland, CA) were the final Bulldogs to score taking third and fourth in the Hammer with marks of 38.02m and 37.64m, respectively.      

Men

On the men's side they took home eight wins on the day.  Markelle Raymond-Hill (10.88) and Cristian Megas (Palmdale, CA) (10.92) started the day off with a 2-3 finish in the 100-Meter.  Megas and Raymond-Hill now sit No. 18 and No. 20, respectively in the Division III National Rankings.

Megas and Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA) went 2-3 in the 200-Meter with times of 21.94 and 22.24.  Megas now sits No. 19 in the Division III National Rankings.  Jones took home the first win on the day for the Bulldogs coming in the 400-Meter where he posted a 49.71, which now moves him to No. 37 in the Division III National Rankings.  Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) then took over winning both the 800-Meter and the 1500-Meter.  He first went 1:53.49 in the 800m, which moves him to No. 12 in the Division III National Rankings.  He then followed that up with a 3:53.82 in the 1500m, which places him No. 11 in the Division III National Rankings.  Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) joined him in the 1500m finishing third with a 3:57.79 and currently sits No. 44 in the Division III National Rankings. 

Rogelio Salicido (Beaumont, CA) and Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) took home a 3-4 finish in the 5000-Meter with times of 15:47.18 and 16:11.30, respectively.  Gael Orozco (Claremont, CA) finished third in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 16.46.  Then in the 3000-Meter Steeplechase three Bulldogs competed with Joey Roberts (San Diego, CA) winning the event with a 10:23.42 and he was joined by Quentin Olive-Larson (Fort Collins, CO) (3rd – 10:41.55) and Alejandro Ayala (Fontana, CA) (4th – 11:17.69). 

The last two running events were the relays.  The 4x100 Relay team of Jones, Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA), Megas, and Raymond-Hill did not score, but currently sit No. 9 in the Division III National Rankings.  Cargile, Jones, Hunter Greer (Wildomar, CA), and Aidan Strealy (Lake Oswego, OR) then took home the top time in the 4x400 Relay (3:24.87) and now sit No. 32 in the Division III National Rankings.

For the field events, Jacob Huset (Tacoma, WA) had a strong day winning the High Jump with a 1.85m mark before taking fourth in the Long Jump (6.42m).  Owen Schmitz (Fremont, CA) took second in the High Jump with a 1.80m mark, but returned in the Triple Jump to win the event with a 13.39m jump.  He is now at No. 30 in the Division III National Rankings.  He was joined by Allyn Asberry-Blanco (Orange County, NY) who took second with a jump of 12.76m.      

Corte Peterson (Lafayette, CO) took second in the Pole Vault with a height of 4.15m then in the throws Tyler Davies (Lake Forest, CA) took over winning the Shot Put (13.10m), finishing fourth in the Discus (34.08m), and fourth in the Hammer (32.26m).                         

Redlands returns to competition next weekend, April 7-9.  A group of runners will travel to Tucson, AZ for the Jim Click Multis on Thursday-Friday, April 7-8 (Hosted by the University of Arizona).  Another group of athletes will participate in the Whittier Twilight Meet on Friday, April 8 and the Bulldogs will then end the week with the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday, April 9.
