U of R Track and Field Impresses with 23 First-Place Finishes at SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 1

The Bulldog track and field teams hosted Cal Lutheran University and Chapman University on a beautiful Saturday on Ashel Cunningham Track for the first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual Meet of the season. Both teams did extremely well against the competition, combining for 23 first-place finishes, as the women downed Cal Lutheran, 122-31, and Chapman 120-33, while the men beat CLU, 94-57, and Chapman, 107-46.

Senior Brenna Dolen (Redlands, CA) started the field events off strong with a pair of wins in the Long Jump at 17'50.05" and Triple Jump at 37'05.25". Redlands also took the second and third spots in the Long Jump to add key points for the Bulldogs.

Redlands also took the first three places in the Pole Vault with sophomore Savannah Engler (Petaluma, CA) leading the charge with a top finish of 9'00.25".

The Maroon and Gray women took a one-two punch in the Discus, as first-year Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA) impressed in her Bulldog debut with a winning throw of 122'04". Graduate student Katie Gonzalez (San Gabriel, CA) took the second spot with a heave of 117'07". She also took first place in the Hammer Throw with a hurl of 142'10", which was 20 feet in front of second place.

Finally, senior Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR) landed atop of the competition in the High Jump with a solid leap of 4'09.25".

Albrecht also took her talents to the track, combining efforts with first-year Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA), sophomore Iman Musinovic (Evanston, IL), and senior Andrea Lyon (Danville, CA) to take first in the 4x400 Relay with a time of 4:16.65 for a 12-second margin in front of second place.

Redlands' women's relays continued to impress with the top spot in the 4x100. This time, Lyon teamed up with junior Courtney O'Neal (Las Vegas, NV), sophomore Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA), and first-year Sydney Harness (Henderson, NV) to stop the clock in 47.97.

Ackerman rolled on with wins in the 100 and 200 M Dash while Lyon grabbed first in the 400 M Dash. Ackerman crossed the finish line in 12.34 and 26.03, respectively, as Lyon sped past the competition in 57.12. Junior Courtney O'Neal (Las Vegas, NV) followed in second place in the 100 and 200 events.

Bachmeier and Musinovic took the top two spots in the 100 M Hurdles with photo-finish times of 15.80 and 15.82.

Junior Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) rounded out the splendid finishes with a first-place time of 12:03.09 in the 3000 M Steeplechase.

On the men's side, sophomore Jack Gordon (Las Vegas, NV) won the Pole Vault, as he hoisted himself to 13'11.25". In addition, sophomore Cameron LaRiccia (San Diego, CA) and first-year Edward Seo (Irving, TX) landed a one-two punch in the Triple Jump with leaps of 41'11.50" and 41'11.25", respectively.

Furthermore, first-year Tyler Davies (Lake Forest, CA) threw a winning toss of 41'00.50" in the Shot Put while senior Jason Waters (Troutdale, OR) won the High Jump at 5'07.75", surpassing the competition by four inches.

Waters also contributed his talents to the first-place 4x400 Relay. Sophomore Christian Megas (Palmdale, CA), junior Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA), and senior Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) crossed the finish line in 3:27.61.

Each one of those athletes finished first in an individual event as well: Megas took the top spot in 200 M Dash (22.53), Jones won the 400 M Dash (50.95), and Cargile stopped the clock in 1:54.83 in the 800 M for first place. Senior Anthony Bonini (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) landed atop the competition in the 100 M Dash in 10.94, followed by Megas. Bonini also took second in the 200.

Last but certainly not least, junior Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) led the charge in the 1500 M with a top time of 4:18.68, which was five seconds ahead of the next finisher.

The Bulldogs hope to continue these impressive results at the SCIAC Championships, hosted by Occidental College at Redlands' Ashel Cunningham Track in Ted Runner Stadium on Friday, May 7, at 11 a.m.
