Junior Tucker Cargile Represents U of R on CoSIDA Academic All-District Men's TF/XC First Team

It was announced earlier today that junior Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) of the University of Redlands men's cross country and track & field teams landed on the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team for NCAA Division III.

CoSIDA's Academic All-District award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined scholarly and athletic success. Due to the cancellation of spring sports, CoSIDA chose to include statistics and accolades from the student-athletes' entire career and not just this season.

In his first year on the track & field squad, Cargile impressively took the top spot at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships in the 800 meters and 4X400 Relay. His stellar rookie season led him to be named SCIAC Newcomer of the Year before taking on the national stage with a 12th-place showing in the 800 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

As a sophomore, Cargile jumped out to an amazing start by snagging 17th place at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a Mile time of 4:18.51. In the outdoor season, he repeated his efforts as the SCIAC Champion in the 800 meters and then proceeded to take fourth place at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships with a time of 1:52.87 for All-America status.

In addition, Cargile has competed in the NCAA Cross Country Regional Championships each of his three years while advancing to the national meet in his sophomore and junior seasons. This past fall he posted an 8K time of 24:51.1 to come in 24th place out of 280 runners at nationals. He ran an average mile of 4:59.5 and completed the race just 37.2 seconds behind the leader. With this impressive finish, Cargile secured an All-America nod for the first such honor in Redlands cross country program history.

Most recently, Cargile was named the 2020 Indoor All-West Region Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. Collectively, he is a seven-time United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honoree and a three-time All-American, combining his cross country and indoor and outdoor seasons.

Earlier this season, Cargile reset Redlands' 800-meter indoor record with a time of 1:51.83 and currently ranks No. 2 nationally in the outdoor 1500 meters with a time of 3:58.47.

Academically, Cargile is a three-time SCIAC All-Academic team member and Redlands Scholar-Athlete. He also garners academic awards each year from the USTFCCCA as an individual and part of the team.

Cargile is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration, which will be announced in late June.
