Bulldog Track & Field Shines in Competitive Field at Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet

The University of Redlands outdoor track & field team represented the Bulldogs well with five top-five finishes from the women and three from the men at the Pomona-Pitzer All-comers meet in Claremont on Saturday. Highlighting the day, senior sprinter Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA) topped the completion with a gold-medal finish in the 200 Meter Dash.

Champion out-ran a field of 64 competitors from all Divisions to claim first-place in the 200 Meters with a speedy time of 21.24.

In the 110 Hurdles, junior Jason Waters (Troutdale, OR) advanced to the finals and locked down a fifth-place finish with a time of 15.80 as the fastest Division III runner in the field.

The Maroon and Gray performed well in the field events as first-year Jack Gordon (Las Vegas, NV) set the tone by attaining fourth place with a height of 14' 5 ¼" on the pole vault. Senior Tyler Lufkin (Yucaipa, CA) followed up with an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 20' 9 ¾", while going on to take ninth in the Discus with a 117' 5" toss.

For the women, junior Desiree Cadena (San Jose, CA) turned in the top finish of the day as she clocked in at 5:23.46 in the Mile for a second-place finish. Sophomore Isabelle Glenn (Seattle, WA) and senior Carly Veasy (Camas, WA) also paced each other well by crossing the line in the top-10 with times of 5.30.73 and 5.30.79 in eighth and ninth place, respectively.

In the field, junior Bryanna Neagle (Las Vegas, NV) used a 5' 1 ¾' leap on her third attempt for a third-place finish in the High Jump. Junior Brenna Dolen (Redlands, CA) leaped 17' 6 ¾ in the Long Jump for a fourth-place standard, while junior Caeli Havel (Pahrump, NV) used her first throw of 33' 7 ½" to take fifth in the Shot Put.

In the Discus, graduate student Katie Gonzalez (San Gabriel, CA) also registered her longest throw on her first attempt with a 120' 3" distance in the Discus to finish in sixth. Gonzalez closed out the day with a 143' 2" toss on her third chance to top all Division III competition and take third overall in the Hammer Throw.

Redlands heads back to Flagstaff, Arizona for the second time this season for the NAU Tune-up on Friday, February 21, at 3 p.m.
