Talented Track & Field Trio Shines at Claremont Classic Multis

Three members of the University of Redlands men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Claremont Classic Multis on Thursday and Friday, earning quality results throughout the meet. Junior Tyler Lufkin (Yucaipa, CA) highlighted the meet with a gold-medal finish in the Decathlon, while senior Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) represented the Bulldog women with a second-place tally in the Heptathlon.

Lufkin amassed a total of 6,138 points with strong performances across the board. Among the 10 events, Lufkin uncorked three career-best efforts. He first set his new standard in the 100 Meters with a first-place time of 11.26 before firing off the fastest 400 of his career in 50.57 for another first-place finish. He also improved his time in the 110 Hurdles by topping the competition with a time of 15.71. In addition, Lufkin finished second in the Long Jump (19' 11 ¾") and the Pole Vault (12' 1 ½").

Sophomore Jason Waters (Troutdale, OR) finished fifth in the Decathlon with a total score of 4,690 that included a pair of career-bests. Waters improved his mark in the High Jump to 5' 7 ¾" for second place while also reaching the best height of his career in the Pole Vault at 14' 1 ¼".

For the women, Romani put together a total score of 4,481 for second place in the Heptathlon. She came in second place in three events, including the High Jump (4' 7 ¾"), 200 Meters (26.50), and Javelin Throw (93' 0").
