Junior Jessica Fields and Sophomore Maliq Champion Honored as Track Athletes of the Week

The University of Redlands gained four Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) athletes of the week, with the fourth-ranked Bulldog track & field teams earning two of them.  Junior Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV) represents the Maroon and Gray women as the Track Athlete of the Week, while sophomore Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA) gains the same honor for the men.

The duo played a significant part in each team defeating Chapman University, Occidental College, and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to remain undefeated in conference action.

Fields uncorked the fastest time in NCAA Division III to win the 100 Hurdles in 14.18 at the SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 2 on Saturday.  She also ran the gold-medal time of 1:03.10 in the 400 Hurdles to land eighth in the nation.

Champion fired off the top time in Division III in the 200 Meters to win the event at the same meet.  He also ran a second-place time of 10.83 in the 100 Meters, finishing behind only senior teammate Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA).  Champion also anchored the winning 4x100 Relay that posted a time of 41.51.  Finally, this well-rounded competitor snagged the silver in the High Jump by clearing a height of 6' 3 ½".
