Redlands Ready to Host 2018 SCIAC Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday

The Bulldogs host the 2018 SCIAC Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday

The University of Redlands and Bulldogs Athletics excitedly welcome the competition to Ashel Cunnigham Track in Ted Runner Stadium for the 2018 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference SCIAC) Track & Field Championships on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28. 

A daily $10 admission fee will be charged at the main entrance to the stadium/track.  Non-Redlands students with ID (12-18 years old), senior citizens (55 and over), and military with ID will be charged $5 each day.  Children under 12 years old will be admitted free.  Any student/faculty/staff with a valid ID from any SCIAC institution will be admitted free as well.  Cash or credit cards are accepted as payment.

Free parking is available in the dirt lot to the west of the stadium as well as in Memorial Chapel parking lot across the street to the south of the stadium.

Spectators are reminded that no dogs or other pets are permitted on the premises. 

In terms of the competition, the Bulldogs enter the SCIAC Championships with great momentum and high expectations.  The Redlands men went 8-0 in the head-to-head scoring throughout the season, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, and Occidental College, which each won six points in the multi-dual meets.  The 13th-ranked Bulldog women earned a 7-1 mark against the rest of the conference, with their only loss coming at the hands of CMS.  Occidental boasts a 6-2 record for third place in the standings.

For the Bulldogs, junior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA) leads the SCIAC in the 100 Meters (10.71) and the 200 Meters (21.49), while sophomore Jordan Washecheck (Tulsa, OK) ranks second in the 400 Meters with a time of 48.54. 

Last year's champion in the 110 Hurdles, senior Afari La-Anyane (Morgan Hill, CA) enters his final SCIAC meet with the second-fastest time in the conference at 15.61.  Junior Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) also looks to defend his title in the 400 Hurdles with the second-fastest time of 54.61. 

First-year Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) embarks upon his inaugural SCIAC Championships with a time of 1:52.75 in the 800 Meters to rank second in the conference.

Redlands' 4x100 Relay of Bohlinger, Burchett, sophomore Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA), and first-year MJ Wheeler (St. Louis, MO) is currently second among the SCIAC with a time of 42.09.  The Bulldogs' 4x400 Relay paces the field with a time of 3:19.01 and includes Burchett, Cargile, Washecheck, and first-year Marvin Perkins Jr (Las Vegas, NV).

Junior Matthew Hayashi (Hacienda Heights, CA) brings the power in the Shot Put with the second-best throw in the conference, reaching 46' 3 ¼" earlier this season.  He also sits fifth in the Hammer Throw (142' 2") and sixth in the Discus (133' 3").  First-year Cal Martin (Dayton, WA) is in the mix of the Javelin competition with the SCIAC's third-best heave at 163' 3". 

After finishing second in 2017, senior Wyatt Pannabecker (Choteau, MT) enters this year's competition with the top mark in the SCIAC at 47' 7 ¾".  Sophomore Mykel Campos (Dinuba, CA) looks to make an impact in the Long Jump as he sits fourth in the conference with a leap of 45' 5 ¼". 

Furthermore, Champion contends in the High Jump with a season-best height of 6' 4 ¾". 

On the women's side, sophomore Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA) ranks second in the 100 Meters (12.15) and 100 Hurdles (14.71).  Sophomore Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV) closely follows in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 14.73 and impresses in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 62.63 to lead the pack.

A pair of Bulldogs is featured in the top three in the SCIAC in the 400 Meters, with senior Justine Keller (Portland, OR) posting the fastest time at 58.86, while first-year Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR) sits in a tie for second with a mark of 59.42. 

Keller and senior Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) look forward to an exciting 800 race, as they enter the event fifth (2:17.89) and sixth (2:19.51), respectively.

Sophomore Maria Ramirez (Orange, CA) hopes to make a push in the 5000 Meters, as she is seeded fifth with a time of 17:35.68.  She also vies in the 10,000 Meters (37:23.88).

Redlands' 4x400 Relay of Albrecht, Keller, Kimble, and Jorgensen paces the competition with a season-best time of 4:01.71, while the 4x100 Relay of Albrecht, senior Sophie Brooks (Seattle, WA), Kimble, and junior Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) ranks second with a time of 48.03. 

Senior Vanessa Blanchard (Palmdale, CA) strives to defend her SCIAC title in the High Jump as the top contender with a height of 5' 5 ¾". 

Kimble and Romani look to push the competition in the Long Jump as they rank fifth (17' 8 ¼") and sixth (17' 6"), respectively.  In addition, first-year Brenna Dolen (Redlands, CA) sits fourth in the Triple Jump with a distance of 36' 5 ¾".

Last season's runner-up in the Pole Vault, senior Mandy Widen (Vail, AZ) leads the SCIAC with a school-record height of 12' 4", while teammate sophomore Gabriella Gould (Bellingham, WA) ranks third among the field at 11' 7 ¾".

Senior Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) hopes to improve upon her second-place finish from a year ago, as she leads the Shot Put with a toss of 44' 7 ½".  Sophomore Katie Gonzalez (San Gabriel, CA) shines in the Discus with the second-best heave of the SCIAC at 125' 11" while ranking fourth in the Hammer Throw (143' 8").

The Bulldogs last hosted the SCIAC Track & Field Championships in 2012.
