U of R Track & Field Women Take Second, Men Finish Fifth at SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands track & field teams completed day two of the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships with strong results on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.  The Bulldog women finished second with 134 points, while the men took fifth by earning 98 points.  During Saturday's competition, the Maroon and Gray captured three individual titles and 11 All-SCIAC marks in a fine showing.

For the women, senior Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA) defended her title in the 100 Hurdles by firing off a conference meet record time of 14.20.  Smith also registered an All-SCIAC performance in the 100 Meters with a second-place time of 12.20.  Finally, her outstanding day included a third-place mark of 119' 7" in the Javelin for another All-Conference nod.

Freshman Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV) completed the 400 Hurdles in second place with an All-SCIAC time of 1:04.70.

In addition, freshman Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA) uncorked a third-place time of 25.61 in the 200 for All-SCIAC honors, while junior Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) ran an All-Conference time of 2:17.25 in the 800 for third place. 

The 4x400 Relay of Jorgensen, junior Justine Keller (Portland, OR), Kimble, and sophomore Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) posted a third-place time of 4:03.27 to finish among the All-SCIAC honorees.

Junior Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) added to the day's success by launching a heave of 42' 10 ¼" in the Shot Put for second place and All-Conference recognition.

On the men's side, junior Afari La-Anyane (Morgan Hill, CA) won the 110 Hurdles with an impressive time of 15.26, while sophomore Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) ran a blistering, career-best time of 53.44 to take home the 400 Hurdles title.

Senior Myles Speegle (Castro Valley, CA) added a second-place showing in the 100 Meters by crossing the finish line in a season-best time of 10.81 for All-SCIAC accolades.

The 4x100 Relay of sophomore Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA), Burchett, freshman Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA), and Speegle put together a second-place time of 41.64.  This was the quartet's fastest of the season.

Junior Wyatt Pannabecker (Choteau, MT) shined in the Triple Jump with a second-place leap of 46' 2 ½", while senior Sam Yaeger (Mission Viejo, CA) unleashed a third-place toss of 46' 3 ¼" for a career-best mark in the Shot Put.

Members of the teams look forward to competing in the Claremont Classic Heptathlon/Decathlon on Thursday, May 4, and Friday, May 5.  Additional Bulldogs will take on the competition at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday, May 6.
