Talented Track & Field Quartet Competes in Jim Click Shootout at U of A

Four members of the University of Redlands track & field team made the trek to Tucson, AZ, for the Jim Click Multis-Shootout at the University of Arizona.  The Bulldogs represented the Maroon and Gray with pride in the heptathlon and decathlon.

Senior Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA) continued her hot streak by putting together a Heptathlon score of 4,799 points to rank at the top of the current season's NCAA Division III list.  She finished ninth at the meet behind various Division I competitors.  Her top finish came in the Shot Put with her fourth-place mark of 37' 1 ¼". But she also uncorked a time of 14.12 in the 100 Hurdles to further improve upon the fastest showing in D3 for the second week in a row. Her time of 25.56 in the 200 Meters and her leap of 17' 3 ¾" in the Long Jump both rank as career-best efforts for the talented Bulldog.

Sophomore Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) also shined in the Heptathlon with the best score of her young career at 4,302 points, which currently places her third in the nation.  She uncorked a heave of 33' 1 ½" in the Shot put for the best mark of her Bulldog tenure.  She also improved upon her personal standard in the 200 Meters (25.90) and 800 Meters (2:30.13) for a solid effort.

Freshman Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA) made her debut in the Heptathlon at the high-caliber meet by earning 3,758 points.  She recorded three career-best marks in the process, including her fastest 200-meter time of 25.58.  She also impressed in the High Jump by clearing a height of 4' 5 ½" before completing the 800 Meters in a career-best time of 2:30.63.

Junior Afari La-Anyane (Morgan Hill, CA) represented the Bulldog men with a quality performance in the Decathlon that included four career-best marks.  He improved upon his personal standard in the 100 Meters by crossing the finish line in 11.93 before muscling out the fastest 1500 of his career in 4:59.17.  In addition, he excelled on the High Jump by clearing a height of 6' ¾".  Finally, he recorded a heave of 30' 3 ¾" in the Shot Put to better his previous best.

Redlands looks forward to competing in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. in Claremont.
