Bulldog Track & Field Jumps into Action with Quality Marks at the Mountain T’s Invitational

Multiple members of the University of Redlands track & field teams traveled to Northern Arizona University for the Mountain T's Invitational to kick off the indoor season.  The Bulldogs put together a solid showing that placed the women third and the men ninth among the open division.

Among the women's highlights, junior Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA) qualified for the finals in the 60 Hurdles with a time of 9.27.  She finished eighth with a career-best time of 9.25. 

During the prelims, freshman Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) and sophomore Courtney Crain (Happy Valley, OR) closely followed with respective time of 9.88 and 10.08.

Sophomore Vanessa Blanchard (Palmdale, CA) won the Redlands-only competition in the High Jump by clearing 5'3" in her season debut.  Sophomore Mandy Widen (Vail, AZ) took fifth in the Pole Vault with a height of 11' 6 ¼" for a solid start to her second campaign.  Senior Kylie Scott (Snohomish, WA) registered a distance of 33' 6 ¾" in the Shot Put, while Romani uncorked a leap of 17' ¾" in the Long Jump.

For the men, sophomore Afari La-Anyane (Morgan Hill, CA) and junior Sam Yaeger (Mission Viejo, CA) recorded solid showings in their respective field events. While competing in the Long Jump for the first time, La-Anyane took fourth by reaching a mark of 19' 10 ¾".  Yaeger uncorked a heave of 41' ¼" in the Shot Put to take fifth place.

In addition, freshmen Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA) and Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) made their Bulldog debuts on the track.  Bohlinger notched a time of 23.41 in the 200 Meters, while Burchett completed the 400 in 52.27.  Senior Pekthra Chhor (Loma Linda, CA) also ran the 400, finishing slightly faster at 51.48.  Freshman Nathan Munoz (Rio Rancho, NM) added to the rookie fire power with a time of 8.55 in the 60 Hurdles.

Redlands next competes in the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet on Saturday, February 20, at 11 a.m.
