Bulldog Track & Field Excels in Preliminaries of NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The University of Redlands Bulldogs showed well at the first two days of the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Canton, NY, qualifying for the finals in three events.

On Thursday, the men's 4x100 Relay of freshman Dale Stoller (Santa Cruz, CA), junior Joey Colucci (San Jose, CA), sophomore Myles Speegle (Castro Valley, CA), and senior Taylor Browning (Carbondale, CO) uncorked the fastest time in Redlands' Division III history to qualify for the event-final.  The quartet took second in the first heat with a time of 40.93 and ranked third among the qualifying teams.   This is a new season-best time for this relay team, which earned its spot at the national meet with a mark of 41.11.

The final for the 4x100 Relay is scheduled for Saturday at 10:20 a.m. PT.

Senior Darren Centi (Auburn, CA) competed in the 200 Meters for just the third time this season, earning a time of 21.53 during Thursday's preliminaries.  He took fourth in the third heat but it was not enough to qualify for the final.

During Friday's preliminaries, Centi returned to action to win his heat in the 400 Meters with a time of 47.87 and advance on to the final, which takes place on Saturday at 11:25 a.m. PT.

In addition, Speegle and Colucci competed in the preliminaries of the 100 Meters on Friday, as Colucci placed second in the third heat and sixth among the qualifiers to move on to Saturday's final, which begins at 11:45 a.m. PT. 

Speegle completed the short sprint in 11.01 but missed the cut for the final.

Saturday's schedule also includes the High Jump for senior Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) and freshman Vanessa Blanchard (Palmdale, CA) at 8:30 a.m. PT.

Finally, sophomore Alison Smith (McKinleyvilley, CA) made her national debut in the Heptathlon by competing in three events each on Thursday and Friday.  She finished 19th overall with 4,318 points in her first-ever NCAA appearance.   A. Smith's best showing came in the 100 Hurdles, as she collected 858 points with a fourth-place time of 14.88.  She also performed well in the 200 Meters (26.07) by finishing among the top 10 to earn 791 points in that event.
