Redlands Track & Field Collects Career-best Marks at UCSD Triton Invitational

The University of Redlands track & field teams traveled to UC San Diego on Friday and Saturday for the Triton Invitational, which allowed the Bulldogs to be challenged against all levels of competition.  With multiple career-best marks, the Maroon and Gray continued to show improvement as it prepares for the upcoming Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.

For the women, senior Della Lyle (Buffalo, WY) shined with a career-best time of 10:11.62 in the 3000 Meters for sixth place overall.  She improved by nearly four seconds in just her second-ever outing in this event.

Freshman Emily Guthormsen (Half Moon Bay, CA) also shaved significant seconds off of her time in the 800 Meters, crossing the finish line in 2:27.82 for a career-best effort.

Freshman Courtney Crain (Happy Valley, CA) kept this trend going by completing the 100 Hurdles in 15.93 for her first sub-16 time of her young career.

In the field events, freshman Mandy Widen (Vail, AZ) tied her personal record in the Pole Vault with a height of 11' 1 ¾", while sophomore Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA) uncorked a career-best mark of 119' 11" in the Javelin.

On the men's side, the distance runners put up solid results for the Bulldogs, as freshman David Galindo (East Los Angeles, CA), junior Ian Lee (Las Vegas, NV), and junior Nathan Meier (Riverside, CA) all ran the fastest of their careers in the 1500 Meters.  Galindo (4:12.90) and Lee (4:15.75) both bettered their times by more than six seconds, while Meier fired off a time of 4:16.00 for an improvement of 2.39 seconds.

Furthermore, freshman Afari La-Anyane (Morgan Hill, CA) eclipsed the 15-second barrier for the first time in the 110 Hurdles by crossing the finish line in 14.95.

Next, Redlands heads to Occidental College in Eagle Rock for the SCIAC Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2.
