Bulldogs Impress at Redlands Track & Field Invitational

The University of Redlands track & field teams hosted their annual Redlands Invitational on a beautiful evening in Ted Runner Stadium on Friday night.  The Bulldogs fired off quality marks in a well-rounded showing, with senior Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) highlighting the competition by tying the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) record with a height of 5' 8" in the High Jump.

Smith won the event while also improving upon her own school record by ¾".

Sophomore Maddie O'Leary (Vernonia, OR) posted a season-best mark in the Discus Throw, taking fourth with a heave of 119' 4".  Sophomore Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA) also impressed with her best toss of the season in the Javelin, finishing third with a distance of 109' 11".

Furthermore, the Bulldog women gained a pair of career-best times from senior Della Lyle (Buffalo, WY).  She finished second in the 1500 Meters with a blistering mark of 4:46.38 and took home sixth in the 800 Meters with a new personal standard of 2:24.31.

For the Redlands men, sophomore Myles Speegle (Castro Valley, CA) uncorked a career-best time of 10.79 seconds in the 100 Meters, while posting his fastest time of this season in the 200 at 22.23.

In addition, senior Dominic Lopez (Las Vegas, NV) cruised to a career-best time of 4:06.55 in the 1500 Meters en route to a seventh-place showing for the Bulldogs.  Freshman Afari La-Anyane (Morgan Hill, CA) improved upon his fastest mark of his young career by completing the 110 Hurdles in 15.06 for third place.

The men's track competition was capped off with a first-place showing by the 4x400 Relay of senior Antwain Morgan (Granada Hills, CA0, sophomore Auston Tribble (Glenwood Springs, CO), senior Darren Centi (Auburn, CA), and senior Taylor Browning (Carbondale, CO) by leading the pack with a season-best time of 3:19.51.

In the field events, senior Lant Abernathy (Templeton, CA) shined with two season-best marks.  He launched the Shot Put a distance of 40' 8" for third place, while firing off a mark of 131' 6" for fourth place in the Javelin.

Redlands heads to the SCAIC Multi-Dual No. 2 on Saturday, March 28, in Eagle Rock at 9:30 a.m.
