Bulldog Track & Field Fires off Quality Times at Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic

A small contingent of University of Redlands track & field competitors headed to Eagle Rock on Friday for the Oxy Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic. Overall, the Bulldogs produced solid results while taking on high-caliber competition at the meet.

For the women, freshman Kaylee Jorgensen (Claremont, CA) improved upon her 800-meter time by clocking in at 2:20.62 for 17th overall.  Freshman Emily Guthormsen (Half Moon Bay, CA) and sophomore Carolyn Demaree (Portland, OR) also ran this race, posting times of 2:32.80 and 2:40.62, respectively.  Demaree's time was a six-second improvement over her showing at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual No. 1 less than a week ago.

Junior Lauren Roberts (Portland, OR) fired off a school-record mark in the 10000 Meters, completing the long race in 38:02.54 during her event-debut.  Senior Della Lyle (Buffalo, WY) also competed in the 5000 Meters for a hugely improved career-best time of 17:38.74, shaving more than 80 seconds from her previous track mark.  

In addition, freshman Raina Sprock (Canyon Country, CA) ran a 5:19.64 in the 1500 Meters for 36th overall.  

On the men's side, senior Dominic Lopez (Las Vegas, NV) shined for the Bulldogs by placing sixth in the 800 Meters with a time of 1:52.89, which was just .87 off of his career-best effort.  Sophomore Alonzo Washington (Clovis, CA) fired off a sub-two-minute time in this distance for the first time in his college career, going 1:58.10 for 41st overall.  Sophomore Erik Chazin (Hollis, NH) also posted a career-best time of 2:04.64, which was nearly a five-second improvement of his previous fastest.

Sophomore Abhinav Nagpal (Cypress, CA) led the Bulldogs in the 1500 Meters with a season-best time of 4:08.30 to finish 32nd.  Furthermore, freshman Sean Unger (Carlsbad, CA) improved upon his fastest mark by completing the race in 4:12.19, while freshman John Nichols (Arroyo Grande, CA) ran the 1500 for the first time en route to a time of 4:16.74.  Freshman David Galindo (East Los Angeles, CA) made his debut in the 5000 Meters with a solid mark of 16:10.38, while senior Chris Bolt (Reno, NV) tackled the 10000 Meters in 33:34.56 for 22nd overall at the meet during his inaugural race.

Finally, Redlands' runners in the 3000 Steeplechase all clocked career-best times, with junior Ian Lee (Las Vegas, NV) leading the charge in 9:59.74.  Junior Nathan Meier (Riverside, CA) crossed the finish line in 10:09.87, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than his previous best. In addition, sophomore David Garcia (Alta Loma, CA) shaved off about seven seconds for a new personal standard of 10:49.32.

Redlands looks forward to cheering on senior Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) as she competes in the High Jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, March 14, at 7 a.m.  The team then competes together at the Redlands Invitational on Friday, March 20.
