Redlands Track & Field Sweeps SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet No. 1

The University of Redlands track & field teams exceled at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual Meet No. 1 on Saturday, and with numerous impressive individual performances, the Bulldog men and women both swept away the competition.  The U of R men topped Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 92-66, while dominating Caltech, 121-39.  The Bulldog women defeated the Sagehens, 86-76, and ran past Caltech, 120-34.

Overall, the Maroon and Gray men amassed 31 top-five finishes with eight event wins, while the U of R women racked up 32 top-five finishes, highlighted by seven event triumphs.

For the men, sophomore Joey Colucci (San Jose, CA) uncorked a career-best time in the 100 Meters, crossing the finish line in first place with a mark of 10.90 seconds.  He performed valiantly in the 200 Meters as well, clocking in a third-place time of 22.21 seconds.

Senior Darron Usher (Rialto, CA) dominated in the jumping events for the Bulldogs, winning the High Jump with a height of 5' 9 ¾" and the Long Jump with a distance of 22' 5".  He also finished in second for the U of R in the Triple Jump with a mark of 42' 8".

Complementing Usher's efforts, freshman Keaton Meidinger (Olympia, WA) won the Triple Jump with an impressive early-season distance of 42' 9 ½".  Also highlighting the Bulldogs' overall dominance in the jumps, sophomore Trevor Lee (San Mateo, CA) and junior Nylson Ho (Tacoma, WA) joined Usher and Meidinger as part of the quartet that finished in each of the top-four spots in the Long Jump.  Lee took second (19' 9 ¾") in the event, while Ho finished in third (19' 9 ½").

In the throws, senior Jorge Cervantes (Indio, CA) registered a first-place mark in the Discus, winning by nearly five feet with a distance of 137' 7".  In the Javelin, senior Chris Bode (Elk, WA) took first with a season-best throw of 160'.

On the track in the relays, the quartet of Colucci, senior Derek de Vera (Hercules, CA), freshman Myles Speegle (Castro Valley, CA), and Usher won the 4x100 Relay with a speedy time of 42.41.  The Bulldog 4x400 Relay foursome of junior Taylor Browning (Carbondale, CO), junior Darren Centi (Auburn, CA), sophomore Pekthra Chhor (Loma Linda, CA), and freshman Auston Tribble (Glenwood Springs, CO) closed out the meet for the Maroon and Gray with another first-place finish, crossing the finish line in 3:20.29.

On the women's side, freshman Alison Smith (McKinleyville, CA) put together a number of phenomenal performances throughout the meet, winning the 100 Meters (12.82) and the 100 Meter Hurdles (15.73), while taking second in the 200 Meters (27.16) and the Javelin (106' 3").  In addition, she anchored the winning 4x100 Relay squad that uncorked a time of 50.54 seconds.

Also on that 4x100 Relay quartet with Smith were junior Alexandra Blalock (Indian Wells, CA), freshman Tracy Cresta (Pasadena, CA), and freshman Jasmine Ramos (Santa Fe Springs, CA).

Cresta continued to play an instrumental role in Redlands' success as a team, winning the Pole Vault for the Bulldogs by clearing a height of 8' 5 ¼".

Elsewhere, junior Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) and Blalock took first and second in the High Jump for the U of R, clearing heights of 5' 3" and 5' 1", respectively.

In the horizontal jumps, junior Lauren Tritz (Orange, CA) performed well and provided the Bulldogs with one event win to go along with a second-place finish.  She registered a distance of 34' 10 ¼" in the Triple Jump to nab top honors, while in the Long Jump, her mark of 16' 2 ½" earned the second-place nod.

In the throws, freshman Bree Wilkinson (Lafayette, CA) won the Discus (114'), while taking second in the Shot Put (31' 10 ¼").

Finally, the Bulldog 4x400 Relay foursome of Blalock, Cresta, junior Casey Foster (Riverside, CA), and freshman Jessika Snincsak (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) combined for a third-place time of 4:12.93.

Redlands returns to action on Friday, March 14, when it travels to Eagle Rock for the Oxy Distance Carnival.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
