Sydney Patterson takes 2nd in 3-Meter at SCIAC Diving Championships

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships began this weekend with the Diving portion hosted by Cal Lutheran University.   

Sophomore Sydney Patterson (Hilo, HI) had a big day leading the University of Redlands finishing 2nd overall in the 3-Meter with a score of 441.90.  She came into Saturday outside the Top 3 in the seeding's, but proved tough after leading the field of 22 divers after the prelims posting a top score of 425.20.

In the finals she combined for a difficulty mark of 22.90 and put together a strong finish that beat out No. 2 Isabella Doud (3rd - Claremont-M-S), No. 3 Eleanor Mackey (4th – Pomona-Pitzer), Clara Dearden (5th - Occidental College), Makenna Parkinson (6th – Claremont-M-S), Mckenzie Abbott (7th – Chapman), Alexis Romero (8th – Claremont-M-S), and Y-Linh Liu (9th – Pomona-Pitzer).

Patterson was edged by Pomona-Pitzer's Ruby Epstein, who came in as the top seed in the event totaling a 404.55 in the Prelims before coming back in the finals to put together a 445.80 with a combined 24.40 difficulty mark.         

Sydney returns tomorrow, Sunday, February 13 to take part in the 1-Meter with the prelims set for 11:40am and the finals at 3:45pm.
