Bulldog Swimming & Diving Earns Four Victories against Nationally Ranked Sagehens

POMONA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming & Diving teams opened up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition Saturday against Pomona-Pitzer who are ranked No. 11 (Men) and No. 13 (Women) according to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).

The Bulldogs fell 199-62 (Men) and 189-102 (Women), but came away with four victories on the day, three in the individual events and one in the relays. 

Podium Finishes

All of the wins came on the women's side led by the 200 Medley Relay team of Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA), Hanna Parker (Seattle, WA), Madison Petschauer (Cary, N.C.), and Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA) who posted a time of 1:48.91. 

In the individual events, Petschauer continued her dominance winning the 100 Breast (1:07.94) and 100 Fly (57.61) and was joined on the podium by Madison Southmayd (Anthem, AZ) who won the 200 Breast (2:30.76).          

Notable performances

A standout from the tri-meet last weekend at the Thompson Aquatic Center, junior Lucas Walker (Mountain View, CA) again impressed finishing 2nd in the 1000 Free (10:14.77), 3rd in the 200 Back (1:59.25), and 9th in the 200 Free (1:49.92).  He also joined the 400 Free Relay team of Thomas Long (Brea, CA)Memphis Gile (Redlands, CA), and Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) who took 2nd overall posting a time of 3:12.75. 

The 200 Free Relay team of Eddow, Gile, Long, and Drew Heaston (Corona, CA) finished 5th overall with a time of 1:39.96.  Eddow also took 2nd in the 200 Free (1:43.80) and 2nd in the 100 Free (48.02). 

In the Women's 1-Meter dive, sophomore Sydney Patterson (Hilo, HI) put together another strong performance taking 2nd overall with a score of 177.6.  Nakagawa came back in her individual events taking 3rd in the 200 Back (2:12.44), 4th in the 50 Free (25.22), and joined the 400 Free Relay team that took 3rd (3:47.67), which also included Setlich, Gaby Hayon (Agoura Hills, CA), and Southmayd.

Redlands will remain on the road for their next meet, December 3-5 when they travel to Washington for the University of Puget Sound Logger Invite.
