Bulldog Women's Swim and Dive Tops Cal Lutheran, 153-43

The University of Redlands swim and dive teams headed to Cal Lutheran University for a dual-meet in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Saturday morning. With 10 first-place finishes, the Bulldog women went on to defeat Cal Lutheran 153-43 while the men fell by a 74-123 margin, registering four first-place times.

Redlands women set the tone early with a winning time of 1:52.51 in the 200 Medley Relay. First-years Lauren Kline (Parker, CO) and Madison Petschauer (Cary, NC), junior Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA), and senior Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) made up the victorious foursome.

Later on, the Maroon and Gray landed a one, two, three punch in the 50 Free and 100 Breast. Nakagawa touched the wall first in the 50 Free with a winning time of 25.62, followed by juniors Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA)(26.37), and Courtney Prefontaine (San Clemente, CA)(26.61).

The women dazzled in the 100 Breast all posting times only tenths of seconds behind one another to add key points for the Bulldogs. Petschauer won the event in 1:08.38 while junior Madison Southmayd (Anthem, AZ) and Cano followed with impressive times of 1:08.46 and 1:08.48. Cano then went on to take first in the 200 IM, stopping the clock at 2:16.90.

Petschauer rounded out her inaugural outing with a winning time of 58.84 in the 100 Fly. Nakagawa also registered three wins with her photo-finish 100 Back time of 1:02.45, only out-touching the competition by one-tenth of a second.

Setlich continued to roll with an excellent finish in the 100 Free with a first-place time of 57.52. She then teamed up with Kline, first-year Sydney Britton (Tacoma, WA), and junior Emily Heaston (Corona, CA) for a successful time of 3:54.12 in the 400 Free Relay to end the day on a high note.

On the men's side sophomore Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) rallied for a first-place finish in the 200 Free in 1:46.56. Senior Jack McCormick (Santa Rosa, CA) and first-year Drew Heaston (Corona, CA) followed suit winning the next two consecutive events. McCormick stopped the clock in 22.12 in the 50 Free while D. Heaston out-touched the competition in 2:03.81 in the 200 IM. D. Heaston also provided points with his second-place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 53.74.

Junior Sam Ayers (Orinda, CA) shined in the 100 Free with a victorious time of 48.32. He then combined efforts with Eddow, McCormick, and senior Rafael Zasas (Johannesburg, South Africa) to add points in the 400 Free Relay with a second-place time of 3:17.28.

Redlands welcomes non-conference competitor Concordia University-Irvine to the Thompson Aquatic Center on Friday, March 26, at 3 p.m.
