Bulldog Swim and Dive Impresses with Three SCIAC Athletes of the Week

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) offices recently announced its weekly awards and senior diver Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO), sophomore swimmer Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA) and senior swimmer Matt Skinner (Lakewood, CO) of the University of Redlands women's and men's swimming & diving teams secured Athlete of the Week honors for their performances last weekend.

Both the women's and men's teams swept Occidental College and the University of La Verne at the final SCIAC meet of the regular season. The women scored 138-96 against Occidental and 184-49 against La Verne. The men hailed victorious over Occidental 165-71 and 186-39 over La Verne.

This is Scarano's sixth women's diver of the week award this season. She began the morning taking the top spot with 213.80 points off the 1-meter and then finished the day with a victory off the 3-meter board with 243.70 points.

Nakagawa impressed with two first-place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 24.47 and then in the 100 Back in 59.57. She then contributed her talents to the first place 200 Free Relay, stopping the clock in 1:41.19.

On the men's side, Skinner out-touched the competition in the 100 Fly with a time of 52.49 and then contributed to a pair of first-place relay teams as the 200 Free and 200 Medley relays clocked respective times of 1:26.52 and 1:37.04.
