Junior Diver Jacob Miner Captures Bulldogs' First Podium Finish at SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands divers represented the Bulldogs well at the first day of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

With the men competing on three-meter board, junior Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) moved onto the final with a preliminary score of 465.65 as the fourth qualifier. Sophomore Max Spiegel (Englewood, CO) joined him as the seventh competitor with his score of 336.25. During the final round of 11 dives, Miner made his way onto the podium with a bronze medal off of a score of 475.95 for his third consecutive All-SCIAC honor in the three-meter. Spiegel took seventh by tallying a total of 362.50.

For the women, junior Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) earned a preliminary score of 422.10 to advance to the final of the one-meter competition as the third qualifier. During the final, she tallied 408.35 points to finish fifth overall.

In addition, first-year Erica Schickerling (Arlington Heights, CA) finished 13th with 282.65 points in her inaugural preliminary experience, while sophomore Niki Kruk (San Jose, CA) tallied 201.10 points to take 18th in her debut.

The Bulldogs return to action on opposite boards on Sunday, February 17, at 8 a.m.
