Redlands Swim & Dive Holds onto Fourth Place through Day Three of SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to action at Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce for the third day of the 2018 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.  With steady results and multiple Redlands top-10 marks, the Bulldogs maintained their position in fourth place (W: 328 points, M: 381).

The men's highest finish came on the one-meter diving board, as sophomore Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) reeled in another top-three showing at the conference championships.  Following his second-place finish in the three-meter, he posted a third-place score of 463.90 in a solid effort.  Furthermore, first-year Max Spiegel (Englewood, CO) finished fifth with 404.75 points and senior Henry Stuckenschmidt (Fresno, CA) took sixth with 367.20.

In addition, first-year Jordan Convery (Fairview, OR) won the "B" final of the 400 Individual Medley by uncorking a time of 4:08.35, which was nearly seven seconds better than his preliminary time.  In addition, this places him eighth all-time in Redlands history.

Sophomore Matt Skinner (Lakewood, CO) also took first in the "B" final of the 100 Fly with a blistering mark of 50.88.  Furthermore, sophomore Carson Brett (Exeter, C) grabbed a third-place showing in the 200 Free "B" final by touching the wall in 1:42.17, while first-year John Nelson (Parker, CO) registered the fourth-fastest time in Bulldog history in the 100 Back at 52.17, which landed him third in the "B" final.

For the women, first-year August Key (Albuquerque, NM) provided her second podium appearance of the meet by earning a third-place time of 57.09 in the 100 Fly.  This moves her to third all-time in Redlands history as well.  Junior Wendy McAleer (Simi Valley, CA) joined her in the final of this race, as she earned an eighth-place time of 57.96, which now ranks fifth all-time for the Bulldogs.

Senior Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) swam a fast "B" final in the 200 Free by taking second with a time of 1:55.67, while sophomore Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) fired off the third-best time in Bulldog history in the 100 Breast at 1:06.33 for fifth place.

Redlands racked up some quality points in the 400 IM, with first-year Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) finishing seventh with a time of 4:41.30.  In the "B" final, sophomore Courtney Gray (Yucaipa, CA) represented the Maroon and Gray well by taking second (4:47.96), while junior Alden Lovaas (Colorado Springs, CO) added to the firepower with her third-place time of 4:49.47.

The Bulldogs look forward to the final day of the SCIAC Swim & Dive Championships, which takes place on Saturday, February 24, in Commerce.  During the 9 a.m. prelims, the teams will compete in the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, 1650 Free, and 400 Free Relay.
