Redlands Swimming & Diving Slips to CMS in SCIAC Meet

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams made the short trip to Claremont on Saturday to face the Stags and Athenas of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) dual-meet.  The Bulldogs put together a valiant effort but came up on the losing end, with the women falling by a score of 47-191 and the men suffering a 77-166 decision.

Among the highlights of the meet, senior Brian Wright (Kent, WA) won two events with outstanding results.  He took home the gold in the 50 Free with a time of 21.54 for the best of his career in this event.  He also out-touched the competition in the 100 Free with another career-best effort in 46.97.

Senior Corey Winter (Ripon, CA) unleashed one of two sub-two-minute times at the meet in the 200 Fly and earned first place by touching the wall in 1:58.77.

In addition, first-year Rafael Zasas (Johannesburg, South Africa) came in third in the 100 Free to complement Wright's winning effort.  Zasas uncorked a time of 49.55 in an outstanding race. 

Junior Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) provided a second-place showing in the 200 Free with a time of 1:45.47, while first-year Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA) tallied a third-place time of 2:17.39 in the 200 Breast.

Overall, Redlands registered four top-three finishes on the diving boards.  Sophomore Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) took second in both events with scores of 242.15 for the one-meter and 255.25 for the three-meter.  First-year Max Spiegel (Englewood, CO) hauled in third-place showings for the Bulldogs with respective tallies of 159.95 and 210.10.

For the women, sophomore Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) recorded the only event win for the Maroon and Gray by touching the wall first in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:31.87. 

The Bulldogs also gained third-place finishes from first-years Lauren Ankrum (Colton, CA) and August Key (Albuquerque, NM).  Ankrum clocked a time of 13:52.81 in the 1000 Free, while Key paced her team in the 500 Free with a time of 5:32.18.

Finally, sophomore Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) added a second-place score of 235.00 on the one-meter board while also taking third in the three-meter competition with a total of 211.95.

Redlands looks forward to competing in the Winter Invitational at Southgate on December 1-3.
