Redlands Swimming Competes at UPS Logger Invite in Tacoma, WA

The University of Redlands men's and women's swimming teams enjoyed a fun and competitive trip to Tacoma, WA, over the weekend while taking on Mills College and various schools from the Northwest Conference during the UPS Logger Invite.  The Bulldogs gained solid times in the three-day meet, with the men notching five top-three finishes and the women landing on the podium four times.

For the men, the 200 Free Relay of sophomore Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA), freshman Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA), senior Will Tyrrell (Portland, OR), and sophomore Joe Widuch (Naperville, IL) edged out the competition with a winning time of 1:26.82 in a fast race.  The 800 Free Relay of Bauer, senior Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WA), Talag, and junior Brian Wright (Kent, WA) touched the wall in third with a time of 7:07.60, which was a five-second improvement over the quartet's seed time. 

Individually, Wright registered a winning time of 2:11.35 in the 200 Breast while shaving off nearly three seconds from his preliminary time.  He also placed second in the 200 Individual Medley with a solid mark of 1:58.13. 

Bauer shined in the 100 Free with his second-place time of 47.97 for a two-second improvement from his seed time.

The women's 800 Free Relay of senior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA), senior Cassidy Cramton (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), freshman Taylor Cadile (San Jose, CA), and junior Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) teamed up for a spot on the podium by firing off a third-place time of 7:56.92.  This was more than six seconds faster than the quartet's seed time.

The women gained a pair of top individual finishes from Jaques, who excelled in the 200 Breast and 200 Individual Medley with respective first-place times of 2:24.92 and 2:09.99.

In addition, Waddell impressed in the 100 Free by taking second with a time of 54.13. 

Redlands enjoys a short break from competition before returning to a full Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schedule on Saturday, January 7.  The Bulldogs host Occidental and the University of La Verne in a tri-meet at the Thompson Aquatic Center.  Diving is set for 10:30 a.m., followed by swimming at 11 a.m.
